FLEXnet license daemons for use with VSN software ------------------------------------------------- VSN License Management uses the FLEXnet software produced by Acresso Software Inc. (http://www.acresso.com). The FLEXnet license server can be installed on one platform (eg a Unix server) and serve licenses to various applications running on the same or other platforms connected via a local area network. FLEXnet was previously known as FLEXlm. The two products are fully compatible. The network administrator is referred to the FLEXnet End Users Guide, in particular Section 6 for details of installing FLEXnet. In many cases, it is expected that FLEXnet will already be present on the system and merely need additional license keys for the VSN applications. An online copy of the FLEXnet End Users Guide is supplied with your product in the platform-specific sub-directory of FLEXnet of the CD-ROM or by download. 1. Availability License software is available for the following platforms. Software is stored in directories named after the supported platform. Each directory contains all the files that are required for that platform. Platform Description FLEXnet Version Build Platform Kernel --------- ----------- --------------- -------------- ------ amd64_re3 Opteron/Xeon Linux 64-bit 11.6 Red Hat Fedora Core 6 2.6.22 i86_re3 Intel Pentium/AMD 32-bit 11.6 Red Hat Fedora Core 3 2.6.9 i86_r6 " " 10.8 Red Hat 6 2.4.2 i86_r9 " " 10.8 Red Hat 9 2.4.2 sun4_u7 Sun Solaris 7,8,9,10 10.8 Solaris 8 sun64_u5 Sun Solaris 7,8,9,10 10.8 Solaris 9 sun64_u8 Sun Solaris 7,8,9,10 11.5 Solaris 9 i86_n3 Windows 32 bit 11.6 Windows XP x64 (2000/2003/XP/Vista) x64_n6 Windows 64 bit 11.6 Windows XP x64 (XP x64/Vista) Linux users should note that the software is built on a number of Red Hat based implementations. It is also suitable for use on other Linux implementations. Please select the closest Red Hat version, using the Linux kernel number as a guide. Details of tested combinations are published on the VSN Web site. 2. Required Files For Unix versions, the following files are provided: lmgrd FLEXlm license manager lmutil utility program VSN vendor daemon VSNLicenseSetup setup program LicenseAdministration.pdf FLEXnet End-User documentation or LicensingEndUserGuide.pdf For Windows, the corresponding files are: lmgrd.exe FLEXlm license manager lmtools.exe FLEXlm administrator's console lmutil.exe utility program VSN.exe vendor daemon VSNLicenseSetup.exe setup program VSNLicenseSetup.chm setup help LicenseAdministration.pdf FLEXnet End-User documentation or LicensingEndUserGuide.pdf 3. Documentation Additional documentation is provided with the application to give an introduction to use of FLEXnet by VSN. 4. License Requests Please supply the following information when requesting a license key: 1. hostname. This is obtained by running the command "hostname" on the server. 2. hostid. This is obtained by running the command "lmutil lmhostid" on the server. 3. Site Reference. This is your VSN Site Reference number, e.g. VSGE7K The VSNLicenseSetup program collects required information about the license server and generates a standard form of request which can be emailed to support@vsni.co.uk when requesting a license. 5. Installation Unix users should refer to the Section 6 of the FLEXnet End-User Guide for detailed installation instructions. The Windows version of VSNLicenseSetup also installs and starts the license server. Alternatively, it can be installed manually following the instructions in the FLEXnet End-User Guide. This is recommended when FLEXnet is used for controlling multiple applications from one or more vendors. 6. FLEXnet versions. FLEXnet is frequently updated. Our software is supplied with up to date versions of the FLEXnet utilities and VSN daemons. Older versions are available from VSN if required. NOTE: it is essential that the lmgrd license manager has the same version or higher than the VSN vendor daemon. For example, you may run a v9.5 VSN.exe with a v10.8 lmgrd.exe, but not v10.8 VSN with v9.0 lmgrd. Thus, where you have multiple vendor daemons, each supplied with a copy of lmgrd, you should use a copy of lmgrd corresponding to the highest numbered vendor daemon. Please see FLEXnet documentation for further details. This CD contains FLEXnet v11.5 and v11.6 binary files. Some platforms are no longer supported and v10.8 files are supplied for these. 7. Notes Specific to VSN application licensing ---------------------------------------------- i. The vendor daemon is called VSN ii. The vendor daemon is constructed with FLEXnet v10.8, v11.5, or v11.6, depending on the target platform. You may need to update your FLEXnet binaries (lmgrd, lmutil). Suitable versions are supplied with the VSN vendor daemon. iii. The FEATURE lines use a version code that is based on support expiry date. For example, if your support expires during November 2008 the code will be 0811 and the key will be valid for any version or upgrade of your software issued before the end of that month. 8. Further Help --------------- If you require further advice or help with use of FLEXnet to license VSN applications, please contact support@vsni.co.uk quoting your site reference number.
